stamps on head and pistons 120-130

Hi all,
I've opened and inspected three engines over the last weekend. Can anyone inform me what the stamps on the pistons and block indicate.

On a B18 I found .020 pistons and there were stamps with D on the cylinder and D on the block at the top of the cylinder.

On a B20 I found "standard" pistons with "E" on the piston and "D" on the the top of the cylinder.

On a an old B18 both block and piston indicate "E"

The copy of Engine Service manual that I have shows piston C D E and .020. each slightly larger. What does this all mean??
