Why must you use the green stuff?....

Why do you say I need to use the "green" stuff?

I've been using IPD's (Nissen's) 3-row radiators in all my Volvos since about 1986 (when I discovered IPD) -- I routinely put one in immediately upon buying a new (used) car -- and when they get old, I put in another, but that's a long time.
Currently, the oldest radiator I have is the second one I put in my '84. I've got about 6 or 7 years on it right now, and there's no problem so far. The one before that (the first one I put in the '84) started having a very slight leak in a seam after about 10 or 11 years -- I don't think that an unreasonable expectation of a radiator's lifespan.
And I don't use -- haven't used -- any "green" stuff since about 1986. Instead I use Mercedes-Benz brand (i.e., from the M-B dealer) "yellow" (or amber, whatever you want to call that color) antifreeze diluted 50% with distilled water. No other additives!

By the way, I'm not trying to dispute you. I'm just curious, and if there's a better reason to choose "green", I'm really interested. The reason I went to M-B coolant originally is that, since I was also a M-B owner and member of the MBCA then, I learned a lot about MB coolant in terms of their design for engines with aluminum parts, their pH buffering, etc. Ordinarily, I would use Volvo-brand's "blue" antifreeze, but I could never find out any reason why (other than to make my local Volvo dealer richer) -- M-B gave me a reason. So if you can give me a reason to switch to "green" stuff, I'll listen.

Thanks, and best regards,
