This will be my first A/C repair. I have no prior experience.
I saw the recent post w/reference to the fcpgroton.com R12-> R134a conversion kits. They show one kit by Volvo for $249 and a Scantech for $39 or so.
1] Besides $210, what can I expect the difference to be cooling performance wise?
2] Anyone who used the Volvo kit: Are the instructions clear?
3] My present R12 system will work if charged but has a slow leak. I noticed a stain on the passenger side carpet footwell near the console. Is there an A/C component in that area from which A/C oil and freon leak?
4] Shop put dye in a couple summers ago and tested under the hood, around the compressor, evaporator etc. and didn't see any leak. I don't think they were familiar w/Volvo A/C components and they didn't think there was anything near the console to check.
5] If I can do TAB's and the like, how does A/C conversion compare in difficulty?
6] Once kit is installed, does it require evacuation and specialty tools that an A/C shop is best equipped to handle?
7]Searched the archives and found a few tips, but still need to know.
