Hey guys,
Just letting you guys know that I got the brick, and thanks to that very insightful post by Sven's Maintainer I beleive? (It was the post with the website) I got the car for a steal. The girl was getting screwed over by her local mechanics that were allegedly giving her a "deal.". In the past 4 years, she's had her brake pads done 6 times, and her exhaust (Catalytic converter, and mufflers) 4 times! I guess some mechanics really know how to do hackjobs huh? Anyways I looked at the emissions report, and it failed both safety and emissions? It failed safety because (Get this haha) of the brake failure light...Which I guess that ties in with the brake booster? But the brakes didn't feel spongy at all, it felt like the brakes needed new pads, for when I depressed the pedal while driving, the brakes made that all familiar replace the pads! grinding sound. And the fact that it failed the emissions report kind of baffled me. It passed reasonably well with two of the emissions tests, but it failed the 3rd one, the Nox one which I'm assuming that would have to do with the fact that it needs a new catalytic converter? I really don't know, if anyone is familiar with emissions testing could help me with that, I'd appreciate it. I also didn't know the 88 244s used the same exhaust that is found in the older models like my '84...Too bad that car's exhaust is uh....to say the least, badly rusted ha ha..But after 5 hours of extensive detailing I was completely shocked to see how much better the car looked-NIGHT AND DAY. The black paint now glistens in the sunlight, and you can't even tell that there's rust around the wheel wells. There is some rot right underneath where the lower side trim panel meets the undercarriage, and some other spots here and there, but for a New England car it looks great. I was so satisfied that the girl ACTUALLY KEPT MAINTENANCE RECEIPTS!! She had the wiring harness, the fuel sender relay, rack and pinion and a tune up within the past year which was pretty sweet. But if anyone can give me some insight about the brakes and emissions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
