What are the precautions necessary when removing the horn pad on an airbag car? Below is my problem which was posted yesterday. I'd like to check the horn contact points under the horn pad. Any other ideas to try would be appreciated.
1993 245: I'm still having problems with the horn. It has started to sound really weak. I removed the horn itself and cleaned the connections where it plugs in. When I take the horn itself into the garage and hook 12 volts to it directly from a spare battery, it sounds nice and loud. When I put a volt meter on the two wires that feed the horn, and have a helper press the horn button on the steering wheel, I get over 12 volts. When I reinstall the horn and try to honk it, it's still really weak. The connections are clean. I see in Bentley that the ground for the horn is in the passenger compartment next to the gear shift lever. This ground point also serves fourteen other things which all work. Any suggestions to try before going in and cleaning this ground point?
Am I chasing the right stuff?
