Hi bricksters. I have combed the forum recently for leak solutions, and done some work on my 88 240, and I hope that my experience can help someone else.
There have been two noticeable leaks in my 240. The first manifested in water pooling on the passenger front footwell. After some work with a hose and looking around, we saw water dribbling in through the firewall where the antenna wire comes through. Okay: get some rubber pieces, cut them, fit them around the waar, goop silicon over it: fixed.
This year I had the second major leak: perhaps an inch of water on the driver's side. Thank you, Portland. I saw water on the fusebox. After much investigation, and having previously cleaned out the drains in the frame, my dad poured water on the windshield while I stuck my head under the steering wheel. Nothing, nothing, nothing, a River of Water on my Head.
Okay, so I beaded clear RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing.... snort) silicon over the problem area between the glass and the black metal touching it, smoothed a digit across the area to push it into the crack, and it's not very visible. So far, dry.
So often I don't have anything to offer this board! I hope that was useful. Cheers.
