Output shaft seal question... 700 1988

When I popped out the old seal out of the housing, there was a little circular spring?, wound metal material that was fitted inside the lip of the old all-rubber seal. The new seal is rubber inside and has a metal outside. It appears to fit perfectly, but I'm just curious if I should fit that metal springy o-ring into the new seal... Any experience with that?

Other than that, the new bushing appears to be the correct one, and damn if the gasket didn't stay perfectly intact on the body of the tranny. I just might leave it instead of putting the new one on......tempting.

It makes me think that the prevoius seal was a cheapo, failing before the bushing and the gasket even had a chance to implant itself all over the place.

Looking forward to a straight driveline,

Josh in Sawkatchewan
