Speedometer wiring mystery? 200 1992

I'm one of the posters who's having intermittent speedometer/odometer failures. As I said in a previous post they either both work together or neither work together. Neither works independently of the other. I've taken out the cluster to make sure all the wires were properly connected. Everything seemed to be in order, EXCEPT, there is a red and white wire that isn't connected to anything??? Is this normal? All other connections are solid, and then there is this red and white wire (with a female connector) and I can't see where it connects to? It's just sitting there, but it is originating in the speedo harness. Can someone help me with this mystery?
Thanks!
