I've had a nasty driveline shudder especially with heavy load, but basically with change of rear suspension height for a long time. I just always drive alone and have been avoiding it because I hadn't been ready or able to really roll up my sleeves. I'm getting ready to do this, have done the trans mount because that took all of an hour (20 minutes trying to get the 15 pounds of mud and oil off the mount support bracket). I know I've also got a horrible bushing for my diff. mount. It's so worn that I could see through the gap on one side when my car was on a lift. That's for a time I can have my car out for a day or two next month.
I was aligning my shift linkage last night and measured my drive shaft and made absolutely sure my fuel pump wasn't squawking because it was touching the floorpan. While down there, I checked play in my center support bearing.
It feels like there is no bearing installed at all. The driveshaft will move almost a half inch up or down and only stop when it hits the bearing's rubber supports. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy and that there shouldn't be this much play. I think it should actually not have any play in it.
Am I right?
