Installing Permanent Roof Rack on 245 200 1992

I was just wondering if someone had any information on how to install the late model 'permanent' black (not chrome) roof rack on a 245. I saw a decent condition rack at the wreckers and thought it would add something to my bare 245. But it looks as though holes need to be drilled through the roof. Does anyone have installation info. on the roof rack? Is it worth it? I have an OEM Volvo/Thule roof rack that will likely serve all my roof rack needs, but I like the look of the fixed rack. I'm just a little leary about drilling holes into the roof (although IPD does sell the plugs - any comments on those?). Thanks again to all Volvo genii.
