BW-55 Transmission Interchange 200 1980

Here's a project: As far as I know, or recall, the back end of the B21 and B23 blocks are the same and take the same bellhousings, yes? If so, can a three speed BW-55 automatic be replaced with an AW-71 four speed? Considering that the donor would give up the complete trans including bellhousing, what else needs to go with? Does the converter in the AW-71 require the earlier cars flexplate, or does the B21 need the B23's flexplate? How about the crossmember and driveshaft? I have a friend with an 80 244 and he's not happy with the 3 speed for highway driving. Any tips will be appreciated.
