YOu're unlikely to find any limited slip axles in any post-86 240. So if you're looking for a bolt in replacement for one of these cars, you'd have to get very lucky, as in someone parting a car with one fitted, or you'd have to ttry to make something else work.
Some, and I mean a FEW of the 80's models have them- some turbos may have come with them from the factory. Look for older cars in the junkyard and good luck there.
The simplest option is probably to look in a 4x4 magazine and call a major axle shop. Buy a Detroit True-trac for a Dana 30, 27-spline axle and have it installed by a truck or 4x4 driveline shop. You CAN do it, but you may need special tools and definitely a big torque wrench for the pinion nut.
If you can't be without your car for a while for this project, buy a junkyard rear axle and drop it off to the shop- what are they, $100? Install new rear end bushings while you're in there. Maybe urethane? Just a thought.
As for those elusive super-4x4 Volvo axles, I think they came from some NATO heavy trucks. They sure as hell didn't come from any XC models. The stuff under the XC90, V70XC and AWD S70 models is high-tech, IRS, and also expensive as hell. And not all that rugged sadly...
