radio antenna 700 1988

Can anyone help me with troubleshooting a non-functioning radio antenna - mounted to an '88 wagon (760). Extension has been intermittent for the past few years, and finally quit for good. Because of the intermittent nature of the fault, I obtained another unit (used) and swapped relays - no joy. Before attempting to replace the mast I'd like to further troubleshoot the system, and am looking for any info regarding the "actuation signal through the antenna cable" referred to in other posts. Further, if anyone out there has a lock on the wiring of the aforementioned relay, I'd appreciate that as well. I think I've got most of the info on changing out the whip and actuating mechanism, but am always open to good advice. By the way, if there are many different configurations in this area, my antenna system has the relay with a large 3-wire (power?) plug, a small 2-wire plug (possibly up/down to the antenna motor), a single wire (possibly the 'antenna signal' lead), and a ground wire. Standing by in silence. gus_boy.
