tierod end replacement 200 1990

Any tips for me before I replace my tie rod end? Any special tool required?

I have read that there is and a left tie rod end but the parts store told me the part they sold me would fit either side. Right now I will change the drivers side where the need is greater.

Should one or both wheels be lifted off the ground and will I need an alignment right after even if I try carefully to screw back the new part the same amount of turns as the old one?
