So I'm having a flooding issue with my '79 245 DL. I has had a problem with having a real bad stumbling or hesitation since I bought the canr. It will idle ok, and rev ok, but if you put a load on the engine it stumbles very badly.
I have checked the timing and it is ok, and the cam timing is correct.
I have also had a problem with it when I try to stop at a stop light. When I press in the clutch the engine rpms try to go down too far, and tries to stall. I have tried to compinsate by increasing the idle speed. But that did not help.
I had I stall yesterday at a stop light and not start again. I pushed it off the road and let it sit for about 30 minutes to let the flooding situation 'air out'. I tried starting it again but to no avail. I could REALLY swell a lot of fuel. So I pulled the fuel pump fuses and held WOT and tried cranking it again. After a second or two it would fire and run on the fuel that was already in the system.
After the flood was cleared out I replaced the fuses and tried again. But I simply flooded out again. So I pulled the fuses and once it started I tried replacing the fuses to keep it running but it was a no go.
Any ideas?
ALSO, I think I have a fuel pump out. I don't know how to check it out.... But maybe this will help. When I had the fuses out It noticed something. With the key on, When I replaced the main pump fuse I could hear the pump prime. When I replaced the in-tank pump fuse I heard nothing. Can you usually hear the in-tank pump prime at all?
Could this be a pressure reg?
Thanks all,
Tim
