Ok what did I do (or not do) 200

Sigh,

Working on getting Inga a 86 245DL back on the street after sitting up for a couple of years and she started until today. Found that the four wires coming off of the connector on the firewall that went to the Alt, Oil Pressure, a sensor on the block (temp?) and the starter were all in very bad shape (expains the battery not charging I think). Any way moved the Alt wire and oil pressure around the firewall under the washer resv and it looks pretty good. The oil pressure light is now working, have not connected the Alt wire up yet. Put new wires in to the block connection an to the starter on the other side. Crimped the new wired directly to the wiring, there is no longer a connector in the wiring. Red went to Alt, Black to oil pressure, Yellow to the block connection and Yellow Blue to the Starter.

Now the car will not start. Chopped out the first replacement and crimped in another new wire. Checked with a ohm meter (it had a connection) but replaced both the crimp and connector just to be sure with another new wire. Used a Teflon Coated 16 guage wire with a stranded copper wire. Used a 16 guage butt splice with the correct crimpers. This should have worked. But when when I turn the key, nothing. Charged the battery to make sure it had not run down. Same problem, no sound, no clicks, just all the dash goes black and nothing happens. Did not touch the wiring on the Alt, the red or black wires on the starter or Alt. Just replaced the four rotten wires.

Guide me oh volvo experts! What to do, where to look, how to check.

Thanks in advance for any guidance and help!
