1969 164 Plastic trim: License plate lights and tail lights. 140-160

Hello. I am the happy new owner of a 1969 164 which I will be completely restoring. I have a questions regarding the plastic trim on the back of the car.

On most pictures of 140's and 164's the license plate valence looks like chrome or aluminum. Mine is yellow plastic. What treatment was done from the factory and what do owners do to cover up this yellow look?

The same thing happened around the tail lights.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
