foaming oil on dipstick 200

Greetings Bricksters,

Just recently, I have occasionally noticed some foaming oil on my engine dipstick. FYI - it isn't there all the time. I know its water and the worst case scenario is a bad head gasket, but I don't think that is the problem as the car isn't going through any coolant or running rough or exhibiting any other classic bad head gasket signs....

It does, however, have a small coolant leak. I believe it is the "mushroom" seal above the water pump where it attaches to the head. It has leaked there for awhile, but has never leaked much coolant at all.

My questions - could this leak or "opening" in the cooling system cause the foaming? Where else should I look?

Thanks All!
Jim
