Odometer Counting Backwards

Just received the instrument cluster back from overhaul due to a bad speedometer in a '91 740. Everything works great but the odometer and trip odometer both count backward now. I trust the overhaulers more than myself so what did I do wrong? I tried reversing the connections on the rear end to no avail (I may have reversed them during the initial trouble shooting of the speedometer). Everthing continues to work including the backward odometers. On a side note, does it matter how the rear diff sensors are connected and should I put them back? How else could I have reversed the odometers?

Thanks

P.S. I wrote earlier with charging and AC questions. Both work now and indeed require the cluster in place. Thanks again to those who wrote. And for those who are considering replacing their heater core I followed the directions on this site. Not a bad job at all and I would do it again but this is our 'beater car' and I wasn't perfectly carefull with everthing. I didn't break anything, and everything works, but I wasn't as delicate as perhaps I would be with our other cars. That said it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be except for all the scrapes up to my elbows.
