NC No Longer Smog Testing 900

I know we have a few North Carolians on the board. I took a '93 940 in for it’s annual State inspection and I was told that NC no longer requires a smog test for ’95 and older cars and I am not sure why. The garage didn't know. (’96 and newer have always needed the OBD2 check.) I have several cars registered in a no smog test countys and paid extra $$ to get these smog tested. I know the we sometimes suffer a little with the results but it is a great way to help know the car is efficiently burning fuel. The smog testers are operator owned and there should be a thousand of these testers on the auction block or scrap heap.
