changing springs 700

I'm planning on changing my rear springs tomorrow (First time I'm doing it). Before I get started is there anything I should know about (Besides whats in the FAQ) or special tools that I need? Or any tips to make the job easier?

I've heard that usually a spring compressor isn't needed and you can pull it out w/o any real problems...is this true?
