BR,
Sorry I couldn't cut and paste the info but try this site and click on 960 service manual. Very helpful stuff. http://caunter.ca/volvo.html
A sticking relay can cause the lights to remain on and that could run the battery down. Also a bad battery/low voltage can make the alarm act stangely. So one may be the cause the other problems ... a bad battery can make the alarm malfunction or a bad alarm relay may cause the battery to discharge.
My son in law's 96 960 just had some battery problems that made the alarm act up ... replacing the battery has seemed to resolve the problem. He had to reset the alarm by locking all the doors with the battery disconnected ... pushing down the passenger door locks manaully ... and locking the driver's door with the key. Then he reattached the battery cable and opened the driver's door with the key. The alarm would not shut down otherwise. His remotes don't work so I can't tell you if they could deactivate the alarm on his car. We are still waiting to see if he has any more "dead " battery issues. If so the alarm relay may be at fault, but so far it seems the battery was the culprit. BTW ... the caunter provided manual shows the alarm relay in the 96 960 behind the ash tray with the door lock, cruise control relays in a relay rack located in the center console. We are new to 960s (always driven 240/740/940 Bricks in SLC) and my daughter and son in law live in AZ so we've be trying to diagnose this by phone.
Hope this helps.
