Needles or Jets? 444-544

Both needles should be identical, and the jets should be mirror images.

I'm betting you have HS6 carbs, as Volvo never used the H6. The correct jets for HS6 should have an orange band around the flex tube that connects to the float bowl. They're color coded. H6 jets will not mount in HS6 bodies.

Needles for HS6 come in two lengths, and both are correct, but they must match (among common Volvo types, KD, SM and ZH are short, DX is long). It's also possible to mount them incorrectly so one looks longer than the other -- they should be shoved up into the pistons as far as they can go; rather, the mounting surface on the needle should be flush with the bottom of the piston.
