960 engine swap tricks and shortcuts? 900 1995

Hello, After doing this job several times, I have found that removing engine and transmission together and then remove and install transmission with engine out is much easier. The biggest trick is to get the engine transmision combo at the right angle to remove and later to install. I have found that the best lifting points are the front, by the power steering pump, the exhaust side loop and the dipstick tube bolt hole. Drain the oil and remove the dipstick tube. Remove the engine wire harness connector at the battery and the fuse box, remove the two motor mount nuts, remove the acc. cable and vacuum hoses. Remove the connecter to the cam sensor and the crank sensor. Remove the electric fan and radiator. Remove the 134a from a/c system and dissconnect the hose at accumulator and from the a/c condensor. Under the car remove the exhaust bolts 4. Remove the shifter rod at the transmission and remove the four bolts for the drive shaft. Reach up by where the dipstick tube was and unplug the two o2 sensors remove the wire from the trans pan and let hang. Lower the tranmission cross member and remove the 3 bolts holding the 02 sensor wire. remove the center bolt on the cross member and remove. Now your ready to yank, but before you do, it is best if you have an engine hoist bar that the center lifting point can move to allow engine and tranmission to tilt to proper angle to clear the radiator support. When you get your engine on the ground you will have to change it over to the egr system you have on the 95. 97 did not have an egr system. The engine wire harness will need to be changed over so that it will accomidate the egr valve and both knock sensors. Clean all the exhaust pipes and fittings. Good luck. I would count on a two day turnaround time. Pauli
