Calling Duane, OD guru! quick question! 200 1979

My 1979 242GT I just bought has a problem some folks think may be the one-way clutch inside the OD (its an M46). The OD shifts in extremely quick...much better than my '86 240. However, sometimes on starting and occasionally in second gear while pulling hard there is a bang/clunk and all power to the wheels is gone for a second. Sometimes it clunks a few times and then it goes in. Could this be the one-way clutch inside the OD unit? This only happens once every hour or two of driving...not a constant thing. thanks muchly!
