I have a 1976 245 that has some problems. It apparently ran (although somewhat roughly) last Fall and then sat over the winter until it came into my possession. The car was taken to a Bosch service center where it was found to to be making good spark, and only 10psi of pressure. The main fuel pump was said to be making a terrible whining noise, the relay was bad, and the socket slightly melted. I installed a new main pump, and the transfer pump, and relay (into the semi melted socket) without checking the mechanics work, and I still have a no start (it did put-put-put for a minute). The new main pump was still making a terrible whining noise. On the fuel hose from the tank to the main pump there are two sections of hose, one long and one short connected by a metal piece that has about a 135 deg bend to it. The short piece right before the main pump looked to be leaking where I had clamped the hose. I replaced this short piece thinking the main was sucking some air and not pumping efficiently. This seemed to have no effect. That short metal piece with the bend may have a slight kink in it, but when I disconnected this line from the main, the transfer shot a pretty good stream. There plenty of gas in the tank the transfer is well submerged. It looks like this may be trickier than I was lead to believe. I have ordered the J.C. Whitney CIS fuel pressure gauge and hopefully it will be here by the weekend. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Where should I start with the pressure gauge?
