question about conventional oil vs synthic oil 700

I just read the post on the moble 5w-40 syn and I have a few questions.

I got my 92 740 wagon non turbo about a year ago with 139k on it and i have 165k on it now. I drive about 70 miles a day mixed back country roads to the interstate driving and back to the house. Im useing penzoil 10w 30 in the car. i noticed the last time I changed the flame trap the part that fits DOWN into the tube was about 1/2 blocked with about 20k on the flame trap. I allso read a post about a oil box? under the intake Im not sure if Im saying that right, beeing pluged up. And have a slight oil leak from the filler cap after replacing the gasket. New gasket REALLY slowed it down along with the flame trap. So here are the questions.

Should I change to a syn oil and how often should I change it? I live in the mtns of SC 25deg at worst to 95 all summer.

How often do you recomend changing the flame trap?

Can you all tell me what to look for in this oil box under the intake, or what it looks like and how would I know if I had a problem with it?

Thanks for any help and I really enjoy the info off this site it has saved me lots of cash in just the few short months Ive been reading it. Vince
