So this evening, driving about on errands, all worked just fine. Grew dark, headlights on OK, even the front fog lights. Got home, had headlights and front fog lights on. Left the lights on, turned off the key, lights went out.
Later in the evening, wife.sig heads out for groceries. Lights all OK. Returning from store, NO HEADLIGHTS at all, no highs, no lows. Parking lights OK, high-beam flashers OK.
Also, no front or rear fog lights.
Read the Volvo "Green" wiring diagram book until I got dizzy. (The book is a Xerox Copy, no red colors like a 240 book.) Components to check seem to be:
Headlight switch.
Main headlamp relay with BFWS.
Overload relay +15I (Item #2/6)
Stalk switch.
So, I figured that if I could set the headlight switch screw to have the day running lights on, at least there would be low beams. Got my teeny flat tip and tried that.
The little screw went straight in, and in, and in. And it would not turn. And now the parking lights won't come on. Ratz.
So - I figure that the whole problem is in the headlight switch.
Any ideas? Is my diagnosis OK? Would make things simple if it is. Wouldn't have to test a bunch of other things.
Is remove/replace the headlight switch a bear of a job, or not. Have you done one?
I am a 240 guy since 1977, and this 965 is way far different. Aah, modernism.
Have you bought a new HL switch from a dealer? Did it flatten your wallet?
Is there another source? Is the switch same as one for older 960s or 940s?
Yes, I know this is a gang of questions. I know there are a number of knowledgeable 960 owners here, so I have faith.
Many thanks for any advice you have.
Regards,
Bob
