164 no start, no spark 140-160 1975

Just an update.
This is my last donor car. I can't afford another one!

I had the plugs out over night, letting everything dry up. The cold start is unplugged. I charged to battery overnight with a trickle charger and it is good to go. So this morning, I put the 6 plugs in and turned it over. No luck.
The plug on #1 was wet, but it didn't look like it even tried to spark. I then checked the durrent to the coil, OK. I laid the plug and wire in the firewall lip so I could see if there is a spark. I also put a test light on the neg of the coil, so I could see if the other plugs could get spark.
Hit the starter, and nothing! Wow. This is new. When I turned the key from on to off, there was a spark! I got lucky and the rotor is pointing to #1, so the plug sparked also.
The mechanic asked me to stop by and pick up a spare ignition. But I am puzzled that I got spark only when I was turning the sw from II to I. And I got nice sparks when I got the car home.
Got a hand granade?
