95 960 cooling fan won't shut off. 900 1995

Hi,

I have posted here in years past with my 91 740. I traded 'up' for a 95 960 with 180k on it. I just turned 200k (badge is on the way) and am now having a problem with the radiator cooling fan. I don't know a whole lot yet, but like working on things and am willing to learn.

5 days ago when I shut the car off the fan wouldn't quit. After two hours I disconnected the negative battery cable and it stopped.

Since then I have replaced the 2-speed fan relay in front of the battery, the thermostat and the sensor in the thermostat housing. All to no avail. After doing some more testing I have found that the cooling fan will operate normally only when the climate control is set to defrost. Any other setting will cause the cooling fan to go immediately to high speed including when the engine is off.

What should I be looking at/testing next?

Thanks!
-Mike
