Thanks George,
First, both temp sensors are within range. The cold start temp sensor is probably dead, but I pulled the plug on the cold start valve to keep the intake manifold from loading up on gas.
Recap. When I drove the car home last week, it was only firing on 4 because the injectors for #1 and #3 were unplugged. The next day the car wouldn't start, it was flooded out. The neg side of the coil flashed my tester nicely and #1 plug was sparking while the starter turned. The intake manifold was full of gas. So I unplugged the cold start valve.
Numerous attempts at restart were negative. I tried a new MAP sensor, no change. Quadruple checked the cap, rotor, plug wires for proper orientation, including turning the engine by hand to match rotor to #1 position and both lifters up for cylinder 1.
Yesterday, with a fully charged battery, I again pulled #1 plug, resting it on the top of the firewall and put a 12V testor on the neg side of the coil. When I cranked the engine, no spark and no light. It did light when I turned the key form II to I (but you clarified that).
I wonder of the "fix" the mechanic did on the sheathed wire to the dizzy failed. But I don't know how to check that. It is not located in a customer friendly location, right next to the block. I will read my green manual again, before I look for a newer module (black box on fender).
I will keep you posted,
Klaus
