Difficulty in changing a Heater Hose 200

I was wondering just how difficult and how much anti-freeze would be expelled if I attempted the heater hose replacement myself. My biggest concern is the loss of coolant (I have a pet). Is it really that difficult, I am taling about the heater hose from the firewall to the head.

Mine is a 1990 245 with a 5-speed transmission.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
