My best advice is to make use of the coolant drain built into the 240 red block motor. I think the information on that is in the 700/900 FAQ, but I'll write what I know anyway. I believe you can prevent just about all the spillage of coolant by using that drain.
It is on the passenger (exhaust) side of the block, around cyl #4 or maybe #3. About the same height as the oil filter, and pretty far back on the side of the block.
It has two sizes of hex. The smaller outer one is the valve-opener. You can slip a hose over the end of it. I think my hose is 1/4" or 3/8" inside. When the stuff starts coming out the hose carries it to a pan or whatever. The right size hose slips onto the nipple and stays there without clamps or anything.
I drain the hose into a 2-1/2 gallon water jug. I lay it on its side, I cut a hole in one corner of the jug. Hole goes on top side, hose goes into the hole, jug holds what comes out. Later I can pour from the jug back into the car's coolant reservoir.
Be aware that the valve tube could be clogged with old crud. So have a pan under it the first time you try. If it's clogged, you'll keep turning, and the piece with the small hex on it will come out of the larger valve piece, and it will drain. Or you can stop after every one or two turns, and poke something in there, and you'll probably break up the junk.
I never loosened the larger hex. This removes the valve from the block. I don't know if it's sealed with something or what, so I just left it where it is.
This will not completely drain the block - since the lower radiator hose is higher than the drain, the coolant stays in the radiator. No problem. Just pay attention when you refill - pour in premixed 50-50 because you don't know how much fluid is in there.
Or-
If you flush with water then you can figure that anything in there is water. Total capacity is 10 qt., so put in 5 qt. of anti-freeze. Then top off with enough water to fill it, and you will have a total of 5 qt. anti-freeze and 5 qt. water.
