After a LOT of guessing, 3 hours of mechanic time, and a few seconds of resistor testing, I found that the Hall sensor in my distributer was no longer sending senses. No spark, no run.
I bought a used distributer from Strandberg and installed it today. Plugged all the wires in and took a guess at the timing, and hit the starter. The cold start valve was still unplugged, so I cranked 4 or 5 times and slowly started! I ran around to the front fender and turned the dizzy until I got a good idle and lightly tightened the dizzy in place and reattached the vacuum hose.
What a relief! First time since last October! The new wires attached to the air and engine temp sensors make a big difference. The exhaust is fairly smooth flowing. The current idle is at 1100, but that is OK for now.
It did bog down a couple of times after the engine got to operating temperature and I don't know why. Next puzzle!
All I need to do now is put the dash back together with the ignition back behind the key and give her a bath. Plus I need to send George a used distributor with a broken Hall sensor, if he sends me an email with his address. A "reward" for helping me and all of the other folks on this board.
Thank you, everyone.
