Front Brakes 700 1989

I replaced the front pads on my 1989 740gl. Wow that was easy. Wrong!! Now it's acting like the booster isn't functioning properly. I've bled the brakes four times to no avail. LF,RF,LR,RR just like the book says. I have some power assist but have to push really hard to get full breaking and then you can hear the vacuum escaping around the pedal.Push a little harder at a stop light and I can kill the engine with so much leakage. What could I have done wrong. The brakes were fine when I pulled in the garage and 30 minutes later I have this.
I replaced the check valve but that didn't help. It's too coincidental to have the power assist fail at that exact time. Any suggestion? Dave T.
