driveline clunk 200

I have an 88 240 wagon with the 5 speed manual tranny. Recently I have been hearing somewhat of a clunk sound when switching between gears, 1 to 2, 2 to 3 in particular. I have often heard the sounds (gears crunching) going into reverse but this is all new. It does not always occur. Also I have always had a problem getting into first gear from a stop. Sometimes putting it in 2nd then up to 1st helps.

In the past few months I replaced the torque rod bushings, nice blue poly ones from FCP Groton. Two weeks ago I replaced the rear shocks. I may well need new trailing arm bushings, 236K on the clock and I'm not sure when they were last replaced.

Could this be trailing arm bushings? Could it be the center driveline support (with the spring)?

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Mike
