engine cutting back /dying while driveing 700 1985

Hello, I have a 85 740 with 145k miles on it. I replaced the fuel fump relay behind the fuse panel a month or so ago. Now I am haveing another problem. Sometimes while driveing the car the the engine will cut back and die while driveing it. When it does this I look down at the rpm gauge and it goes down to zero gradualy. If I pump the gas peddle sometimes it helps but, sometimes it doesn't. What do you guy's think this could be. I love this car and it runs great when running but, at least once a month I am trying to figure out another problem.
