Low idle speed 140-160 1972

Well, it seems I am not quite done with locating the cause of the low idle speed when restarting with a warm engine. This car has D jet ignition.

The suggestions in prvious threads led to a disconnected wire in the throttle position switch plug and carbon coated spark plugs. These issues have been resolved.

Here are additional clues. When restarting a warm engine, the idle speed will be about 500RPM. Increasing idle to 2500 or so for 10-15 seconds will cause the idle to return to normal. If the engine is allowed to idle for more than 2-3 minutes, idle will suddenly drop to 500. The process can be repeated. It almost seems the car is running rich and choking on excess gas yet the air/fuel ratio gauge shows a proper mixture. Advance is set 12 BTDC, vacuum disconnected, plugs are now clean fuel pressure is at 28lbs and holds steady throughout.

All suggestions cheerfully accepted.
