strange electrical problem-- any ideas? 200

1979 242 dl--

I was going up an old, novel, annoyingly lumpy strip of brick road here in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood and my AMP light came on (I'm not sure if it's realated to the bumpy road, but I feel it is connected to my problem). Also, all the gauges died. No fuel gauge, no temp, no speedo! I pulled over and checked for loose wires but to no avail. I turned the ignition on, didn't start it yet, and noticed that there were no warning bulbs lit. I started it and drove home. The speedo was now working but every other gauge was dead. The TEMP gauge was barely registering, but not enough to tell me it was working. The AMP light is still lit, and though it's not glowing at 100%, it is definitely lit. I was concerned that my battery would drain but I've been driving it for three days now and it is exhibiting no symptoms of a faulty charging system, there's just no way of telling what my fuel tank has in it. and no dummy lights.

duhhh.

any ideas?

thanks!
