In my previous post, I should have added,

I use synthetic oil (I believe that this has a lot to do with the good condition of the car's engine)

I remember that when I was towing that U-Haul with my daughter's stuff, I only got about 12mpg on that trip -- normally I get (and still do) 20-22 mph on that old '84. [Not to mention more like 25+ on my two newer '93s]. But I think that was as much a funtion of the weight of that trailer, rather than only because it was just being operated in no higher than 3rd gear.
