size of line fitting at compressor & condensor fitting question & oil question -long post 200

1990 240

Anyone know the size of the line fitting on the suction side of the compressor?

The biggest line wrench I have is 24mm and it is too small.

Also, I am trying to change all the o-rings and am having a hell of a time removing the upper a/c hose from the condensor fitting. The line nut is easy to get off but the a/c hose will not come out of the fitting. I tried p/b blaster, tapping the fitting, gripping the metal part of the hose with pliers and then tapping the pliers, wiggling, you name it. I have yet to try the lower a/c line on the condensor. Any advice or opinions here?

Or shoud I say f*%k those o-rings (maybe the seal is just too good ;-) and replace all the other ones I can.

I would hate to fill up with gas and have it leak out. My real gut instinct is to simply replace the condensor for posterity. I see them on Ebay for $115-$125 shipped to my house. I thought about cutting the upper and lower fittings off and removing the a/c lines this way.

Then again, why spend anymore money -at least until I pull a vacuum and see if it holds.

Too, when I removed the line from the dryer and the line on the discharge side of the compressor and blew air threw it, no oil came out. None in the condesor. None in the dryer. Wierd.

Should I put 8.5 to 8.7 ounces of POE oil into the new compressor? Or, should I put let's say 4oz in the compressor and the rest in the dryer?

I bought a remanufactured compressor. The old one cooled, minimally, last year (when I bought the car) and made no noise. I thought it had a low charge but did no tests as I was working on other systems in the car. This year, as soon as the weather warmed, I started to get a little noise. I felt replaceing the compressor was a solid performance option to possibly grinding away the internals, on an original unit, and putting crap in to the system.

Expansion valve is on the way. Got a new o-ring kit. Got a new dryer. Got a new compressor. Got gas. Got oil (POE in an 8oz can with a lid and 2oz (w/ some gas in a pressurized can)). I have gauges. Thought I had all the right hand tools. Got an air powered vacuum pump. Everything is almost good to go, any tips or advice.

I seriously searched the archives here and at TBricks. My research has been thorough but a little help might seal (pun intended) the deal.

TIA
