She was running, then she stops 200 1985

My wife set out for work this AM in her 1985 240 DL and the car started fine and she took off down the street until she was one block away at which time she said the oil light came on and the engined stopped running. She tried to start it but no luck.

So I went down and tried to start it several but no worky. The engine turns over fine but it doesn't seem to "catch" for lack of a better word. Does anyone know what could cause this? It just turned over 150,000 and the timing belt is due to be changed at 160,000 but I thought it wouldn't turn over at all if that were the problem. Could it be the starter or alternator?
