91 740 blower problem 700

My Chilton manual has no useful information, and no wiring diagram for the blower. Mine runs on high only. I pulled the resistor pack and nothing looks burned. I have power to one side, and none on the other side of the reisistor pack. There's a diode, or something, that has power on one side and not the other. When I jump 12v to the other side of the resistor the blower runs.

does this mean the resistor is bad?

While I'm at it, is there a better manual than the chilton, this one goes from 90-93 700/900/200 series cars? It's just about useless.
