1987 240 Stalls when put in reverse. 200 1987

My 1987 240 automatic trans. when put in gear to reverse will stall. I can crank it up and once it's in a forward gear or on the road it has no problem. This is only happening in the reverse position. Does anybody have an idea what might be causing this. 216,000 miles
