forest through the trees 700 1985

bricksters

I was having a terrible time with shuddering under load and engine vibration in certain power bands.

being an avid reader of the board and my ride having 240k on it I assumed all kinds of scenerios and parts to be replaced etc..

binding brake calipers (needed new one's anyway)

I replace the drive shaft bearing thinking because the carrier doughnut was detached it was wobbling creating the shudder.

I screwed with the driveshaft at least 3 or 4 times thinking I'd misalligned the splines when putting together.

I replace the fuel pressure regulator thinking that might be part of the reason.

I have the plastic thingy hanging from the back of the distributor and was thinking Hall sensor issues.

finally friend stopped by and we ran threw a quick trouble shooting for no start conditions.

i broke out my volt meter (luckily he knew how to use) and we started into the simplest testing for resistence, spark, fuel and fuel pump activity.

Turns out I was running on 3 cyclinders for months ( DEAD IGNITION WIRE).

how often do wires go bad with in a couple yrs ?

I was shocked that the solution was so simple and that i wasted lots of time if not money.

But without the Board I wouldn't have been able to guide friend through some of the trouble shooting methods and theory to eliminate certain things .

Sometimes youy can't see the forest through the trees.
