O/D Switch 140-160 1974

I was wiring up my 74 144 for the O/D over the weekend, and the circuit works fine (I tested it with a light bulb since the tranny is in the shop), and I even managed to wire up the green O/D light on the dash. My only problem is the switch. I got all the hardware from a 72, and on the 72, the O/D switch is mounted opposite from the turn signal/hi-lo beam switch on the steering column. On my 74, the space is already taken up by the wiper/washer switch. The plastic steering column cover does not look sturdy enough to support the switch even if I drill a hole in it and mount the switch there. There seems to be no place inside the steering column cover to mount the O/D switch.
Any ideas?

For now, I am using a toggle switch mounted next to the rear defroster switch.
