the 'light out' light 200 1989

first of all I would like to thank every one for answering my questions, I really apricate it and I have learned alot.Ok here is the propblem. Whe I turn my left turn signal on that little bulbe with the x across it, I dont know the tech. name for it but it means you have a ligh that is not working, comes on and flashes in sequence with the turn singal. I checked the turnsignal and all the lights are working. This also hapens when I press the brake pedel except it stays constent and does not flash. Again all break lights are working properly. Any thoughts? posibly a short but not sure. Your help is greatly apreacated. 1989 240 dl sedan
