stuck filler bolt m46

Hi all,
I have a stuck filler bolt on my m46 tranny. As i was using a breaker bar and the bolt started to round. I stopped pushing before i did any serious damage. I've tried using P-Blaster and that hasn't helped.
I read about using a torch to heat the bolt. I have no experience with torches and the flame issue seems a bit intimidating. Can someone explain how the torch works? Does any one have any words of wisdom on using a torch to free this bolt safely?

thanks
-jeremy
