Engine check light question - maybe some advice too... 200 1990

Check engine code shows bad O2 sensor. Now I have developed a rattling catalytic convertor. Could the O2 code actually be due to the CAT being bad and not the O2 sensor? Out of curiousity, does anyone know if there is a separate code for the CAT?

I know the CAT is original and suspect the O2 sensor might be too. Maybe I should just replace both together. Doing both together should make the job a little easier (hopefully)??

BTW - CAT has newish bolts on both ends so I'm hoping they will come off w/o heat since I don't own a torch. Also, this car has the O2 Sensor that plugs into the CAT.

Thanks All,
Jim
