air condition intermittent 700 1991

If there is a relay..if so where is it located?...it seems it is acting up as yesterday I could not turn OFF the system with the push button switch on the a/c control panel. Subsequent efforts to turn it off did result in being turned OFF but it is UNPREDICTABLE as to which mode (on or off) that the the system will "FAIL IN". The system is adequately charged ..it cools rapidly and very well...Any suggestions?. I am also looking at the switch itself and will most likely bypass to eliminate this.
